Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program

<<back to Fellowships Office<<

This year US/ED is trying to give applicants (i.e. the universities) 60 days notice for the Fulbright-Hays grants. Keep checking the Federal Register in August, 2008 for the new materials to be published. The campus deadline will be set for about 10 business days prior to the national deadline; graduate students must submit materials by the campus deadline, including letters of recommendation. It is entirely possible that materials and deadline will be published later than anticipated. All materials MUST be submitted electronically, including letters of recommendation, except official graduate transcripts. I will mail in official graduate transcripts; copies of transcripts are not acceptable. You should provide me with a hard copy of your application by the campus deadline. Until the new materials are published for the 2009-10 competition, you should follow instructions from last year; use the application materials from the 2008-09 competition as a guide for your application. Once new materials are available, you will check the maintenance stipend tables and use the new electronic application to actually submit for 2009-10 competition. There is often not much time between the publication of materials/deadline and the campus submission deadline, hence the need to prepare initially using last year's materials. Make sure that your recommenders know that they must submit their letters of recommendation electronically by the CAMPUS deadline; there are no exceptions to this requirement.

Deadline: TBA, but generally 10 business days before the national deadline. The campus deadline could fall in sometime in Sept., 2008.

Competition instructions: Until the new materials are published and I have been able to update the instructions, use the instructions from DDRA Competition 2008-09. Click here for the instruction packet and checklist.

Human Subjects Narrative: You will have to submit a human subjects narrative; see campus instructions for more about this. This should be a WORD doc sent to me via email; I have to submit the narratives from all applicants as a single document. Keep it short and don't stress over it; before you could start a grant you would have to go through IRB review. You DO NOT have to go through review at this time, this narrative is to the best of your ability and will not be a deciding factor in  whether to offer you an award.

Technical problems:
If you or your recommenders experience any technical difficulties with the e-grants system, you or they MUST contact the e-application help desk, 1-888-336-8930 Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Washington DC time. I cannot help with any electronic system difficulties."
